World Alzheimer’s Day: Cognitive Health

World Alzheimer’s Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, but also to think about something that affects all of us: our cognitive health.

Our brains are at the centre of everything we do from remembering important moments and learning new skills to making decisions, solving problems and connecting with the people around us.

Looking after our cognitive health can start with simple, everyday habits:

  • Keeping our minds active and learning new things
  • Staying physically active
  • Priorising good quality sleep
  • Eating a balanced diet
  • Staying socially connected
  • Talking about changes in memory or thinking when they arise

It’s also important to remember that Alzheimer’s is about far more than memory loss. It can affect individuals, families, carers and communities in many different ways.

Today, we recognise everyone living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, the families and carers supporting them, and the healthcare professionals and researchers working towards better understanding, treatments and ultimately prevention.

Cognitive health matters at every stage of life and it’s never too early to start looking after our brains. 💜
