It wasn’t easy. But the why made all the difference!
Seventeen years ago, I lost my dad to oesophageal cancer—a loss that hit hard and stayed with me. Then, years later, it was my kids who became the real spark. They gently (and sometimes not so gently) pushed me to stop. Between grief, love, and a desire to be present and healthy, I knew it was time to make a change.
Since then, life has taken on a whole new rhythm.
🏃♂️ I’ve ran a half marathon.
🥾 I’ve hiked mountains I never thought possible (photo incoming!).
💨 I can breathe deeply—and live more fully.
Today, on World No Tobacco Day, I’m reflecting on the power of change and the ripple effect it has, not just personally but professionally too.
In the workplace, a clear and supportive no-smoking policy can:
- Promote a healthier and more productive workforce
- Reduce absenteeism and long-term health costs
- Support inclusivity by considering non-smokers and those trying to quit
But it’s not just about policy—it’s about support. In Ireland, resources like www.quit.ie offer free, confidential help, tools, and guidance for anyone ready to take the first step.
If you’re thinking about quitting—or helping someone else quit—my advice is this:
✅ You have to be ready.
✅ It won’t be perfect.
✅ But it can be done.
And it might just be the best decision you’ll ever make.
